Làyû Dihî Mîze

Làyû Dihî Mîze (/ˈləjʊ/ /ˈdihɪː/ [wizard] [credit (of money)]) is a subtropical Town located in Zrǟmǟs Parish, Rûlichyû Îyà Empire, within the Warrenese Shogunate.

The name Làyû Dihî Mîze is derived from the Wareneese language, as Làyû Dihî Mîze was founded by Mocthëi Êtêv, who was culturaly Wareneese.

Climate

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a yearly average temperature of 15°C (59°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 14°C (57°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 16°C (60°F). Làyû Dihî Mîze receives an average of 251 cm/y (98 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Làyû Dihî Mîze covers an area of nearly 6 km² (2 mi²), and an average elevation of 1588 m (5209 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Làyû Dihî Mîze was founded durring the late 14th century in winter of the year 1353, by Mocthëi Êtêv. The establishment of Làyû Dihî Mîze was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Mocthëi Êtêv struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Làyû Dihî Mîze as a prison colony.

Làyû Dihî Mîze was built using the conventions of Wareneese durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Làyû Dihî Mîze is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature stone brick construction with most buildings posessing towers, turrets, dormers, and wide wrap-around porches. An extreem emphasis on decorative features and emblishments can be seen even on the poorest of homes and makes even the most humble of structures seem a bit regal.

Làyû Dihî Mîze is is constructed arround a series of restrictive split-log ties mainstreets which form concentric circles, with smaller strait roads linking the circiles to each other at varrious points. The town emploies a series of defencive earthworks, spikes, and fences to provide some protection against wild beasts and smaller groups of intelegent foes. Làyû Dihî Mîze's minimaly adiquite are suffering from significent damage, so much so that examples can be pointed to no matter which section one might have within their line of site, and most of which render sections inoperable at present.

A look around Làyû Dihî Mîze seems to be home to a quite vibrant and boisterous community. Everywhere one looks they can see people going out their daily business with a smile and a spring in their step. Children play loudly in the streets, causing untold havoc as youth are want and allowed to do. On second glance, that chaos continues into adulthood. People seem to be allowed to do as they please with little harmoney to anything. It feels less like a town, and more like a spot people just happened to place their homes. Yet there are small elements here and there which show the underlying structure of the community. It’s just so complex, organic, and flowing one can only understand what is a piece of the puzzle, but not what its neighbors are.

Civic Infrastructure

Làyû Dihî Mîze has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Làyû Dihî Mîze. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Làyû Dihî Mîze's parks.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Làyû Dihî Mîze.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Làyû Dihî Mîze's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Làyû Dihî Mîze possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Làyû Dihî Mîze's grid is powered by a boiler and turbine based power plant.

Làyû Dihî Mîze's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Làyû Dihî Mîze's natural decorations nor waterways.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Làyû Dihî Mîze has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Làyû Dihî Mîze's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used makes use of a large oblong hall or building with double colonnades and a semicircular apse and symmetrical central-plan, resulting in buildings with a square central mass and four arms of equal length. Decorative features included domed rooves, arches, soaring spaces, and sumptuous decoration: marble columns and inlay, mosaics on the vaults, inlaid-stone pavements, and sometimes gold coffered ceilings.

Due to the actions of local Kami, spring is long in Làyû Dihî Mîze.

The Death Butterfly Swarm near Làyû Dihî Mîze are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Làyû Dihî Mîze's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves square dance to channel Mysticism energies of tier 1 via moments of science.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. Làyû Dihî Mîze is in secret rebellion against their ostensible liege, having cut deals with his enemies, plotted to betray him for their own gain, or bridled under his tyranny and sought a better lord. The community’s leadership is all in on this plot, and outside viceroys or representatives are being kept carefully ignorant of the reality. The common folk may be oblivious to the truth, though they’ll doubtless have felt the same motivations and promptings that convinced their leaders to turn traitor.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century a local hero by the name of slew a monster which had been terrorizing the streets of Làyû Dihî Mîze. One of Làyû Dihî Mîze's festivals remembers the hero.
